Government Accountability Project Asheville

There are no meetings of the Asheville City Council or the Buncombe County Commission this week, and no new GAP Report for this week.

We are tracking one positively resolved and two unresolved items. You can read the latest information, and see suggestions for actions you might take, at the Report Backs page.

We’re excited to invite you to the first-ever GAPavl Community Gathering at 5 pm on Wednesday, May 15th via Zoom. We’re proud of all we’ve done over the past few years to shine a brighter light on government accountability in Asheville and Buncombe County, and we see the potential for even greater impact moving forward as we expand the scope of GAPavl. We plan to continue sending you our reports and report backs, and we’re exploring ways to connect those weekly headlines about today’s hot button issues in a more thorough analysis of local government policy. We’re developing more avenues for those inside our local governments to respond to the issues we raise, so that we can move beyond the shallows of political argument and into the depths of a values-rooted dialogue about our collective future.

At the Gathering, you’ll meet some of the folks “behind the scenes’” who are responsible for GAP, learn about ways you can get more involved, have a chance to ask questions, and to get to know other folks in our region who share your interest in holding our local governments accountable when it comes to racial equity. Sign up here to spend a little time with us on May 15th.
