Buncombe County Commission Agenda – New Business: Budget Amendment for Grant Award – Jail & Prison Re-entry Grant 2022 (Ordinance)
This grant award continues Buncombe County’s existing Jail & Prison Re-entry Program, funded through Dogwood Health Trust. This grant will provide $445,000 to extend the Program for twelve additional months, with the goal to reduce recidivism and increase access to medical and mental health/substance use care for those exiting the Buncombe County Detention Facility and Swannanoa and Craggy Correctional Centers.
We think this is an important program, both because it is a positive investment in crucial re-entry work, and because it is empowering Black men to take leadership in that process. Extending this program would be a very welcome step for the County Commission to take.
Things to do
We encourage you to reach out to the County Commissioners via their contact page and urge them to vote yes on this budget amendment.
