Things that sound like a step in the right direction

Asheville City Council Agenda Public Hearing A: 650 Caribou Road (Laurel Wood II)

City Council is considering a resolution granting a Housing Trust Fund loan to Volunteers of America for 54 new and 50 rehabilitated affordable apartment units (Documents). There will also be a public hearing to consider a rezoning of the property (Documents, Presentation).

This planned development will bring much-needed affordable housing to the area. We are also encouraged by the fact that the developer sought out and responded to feedback from the Shiloh community, moving the site further from the road despite an increase in cost.

We encourage you to reach out to the Asheville City Council and express support for this proposed affordable housing development. You can use our template link to open up an email to adapt, copy and paste the content below, or write your own message to AshevilleNCCouncil@ashevillenc.gov.

Subject: Please vote yes for this affordable housing initiative

Dear City Council Members,

I’m writing to express my support for the Caribou Road affordable housing proposal. This planned development will bring much-needed affordable housing to the area. I also appreciate that the developer sought out and responded to feedback from the Shiloh community, moving the site further from the road, despite an increase in cost. I encourage you to vote to approve the Housing Trust Fund loan and rezoning request.

Thanks for your leadership,
